GEORGE SMITH was the most recognized and influential outdoor figure in the history of Maine.  He was the executive director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine for 18 years. George was a prolific writer with long standing columns in The Maine Sportsman and central Maine newspapers, two outdoor blogs, and four books to his credit. He received a number of awards including the Maine Press Association and Maine Conservation Voters. George served on Maine NFCs Advisory Council from its inception in 2017 until his death in early 2021. His involvement helped NFC get off the ground.
